Minecraft & Roblox Reference

The numbers that do not change: stack and storage sizes, beacon blocks per tier, the 8:1 Nether ratio, the experience level bands, and every Roblox fee and DevEx rate with the date it took effect. Each card links to the calculator that applies it.

Blocks & storage

The three numbers every material count reduces to. Everything the build planner reports is one of these divisions.

Stack size

blocks
64
  • Most blocks — 64 per stack
  • Ender pearls, snowballs, signs — 16 per stack
  • Tools, armour, buckets — 1 per stack

A full inventory of 36 slots therefore holds 2,304 stackable blocks.

Shulker box

blocks
1,728
  • Slots — 27
  • Stacks — 27 × 64 = 1,728 blocks
  • Boxes per inventory — 27 (one per slot)

The unit that decides how many trips a build takes, not the stack.

Hollow cuboid

formula
2(L·W) + H·(2L + 2W − 4)
  • L, W — floor dimensions in blocks
  • H — height in blocks
  • − 4 — corners, counted once not twice

Walls plus both caps. Subtracting 4 from the perimeter is the step people miss.

Beacon pyramids

A beacon base is an exact block count per tier — nothing is approximate here, so it can simply be looked up.

Blocks per tier

cumulative
9 · 34 · 83 · 164
  • Tier 1 — 3×3 = 9 blocks
  • Tier 2 — + 5×5 = 34 blocks
  • Tier 3 — + 7×7 = 83 blocks
  • Tier 4 — + 9×9 = 164 blocks

Iron, gold, diamond, emerald and netherite all work, and may be mixed.

Ingot cost

ingots
1,476
  • Blocks at tier 4 — 164
  • Ingots per block — 9
  • Total — 164 × 9 = 1,476 ingots
  • In stacks — 23 stacks + 4

Roughly 23 stacks of iron for a full pyramid — the real cost of a tier-4 beacon.

Range & duration

blocks / seconds
10T + 10
  • T — tier, 1 to 4
  • Tier 4 range — 50 blocks horizontally
  • Vertical — 256 down, to build limit up
  • Effect duration — 9 + 2T seconds after leaving

Range is horizontal from the beacon; the vertical column is effectively the whole world height.

The Nether

Portal linking is pure arithmetic, and the one ratio below explains every portal that "went to the wrong place".

Coordinate ratio

8 : 1
Nether = Overworld ÷ 8
  • X and Z — divide by 8 going in, multiply by 8 coming out
  • Y — unchanged
  • Bedrock Edition — same 8:1 ratio

Rounding matters: 1,200 → 150 exactly, but −450 → −56 and back to −448.

Portal frame

obsidian
10 minimum
  • Smallest frame — 4 wide × 5 tall, corners optional
  • Portal blocks — 2 × 3 = 6
  • Largest frame — 23 × 23

Corners are not required, which is where the 14-block instinct becomes 10.

Open the Minecraft Nether Portal Calculator →

Search radius

blocks
128
  • Existing portal search — 128 blocks in the Nether
  • If none found — a new portal is generated
  • Consequence — two Overworld portals under 1,024 blocks apart can share one Nether portal

The usual cause of a portal pair that refuses to link the way you expect.

Experience

The cost of a level is not constant — it rises in three bands, which is why the last few levels before 30 feel so much slower.

Points to reach a level

three bands
L ≤ 15 · 16–30 · 31+
  • Levels 1–15 — L² + 6L
  • Levels 16–30 — 2.5L² − 40.5L + 360
  • Levels 31+ — 4.5L² − 162.5L + 2,220

Total points from zero to level L. Java Edition.

Open the Minecraft XP Calculator →

Level 30 milestone

points
1,395
  • Level 27 — 1,089 points
  • Level 30 — 1,395 points
  • Those three levels — 306 points
  • Levels 47 → 50 — 822 points

The same three levels cost 2.7× more at level 50 than at level 30.

Common XP sources

points each
1 – 20
  • Most hostile mobs — 5
  • Bottle o' Enchanting — 3–11 (7 average)
  • Ore blocks — 0–5 depending on ore
  • Smelting, breeding, trading — 1–20

Mob and bottle averages are what the level-gap estimates are based on.

Roblox rates & fees

Four numbers govern what a Roblox creator earns. Roblox sets all four and has changed them, so each is dated below.

Marketplace fee

of the sale
30%
  • You keep — 70% of the list price
  • 500 R$ pass — you keep 350 R$
  • To net a target — divide by 0.70, do not add 30%

Adding 30% to 350 gives 455, which nets only 318 R$ — still 32 short.

DevEx rate — standard

per Robux
$0.0038
  • Applies to — Robux earned from 10 AM PT, 5 Sept 2025
  • 30,000 Robux — $114
  • Per 1,000 Robux — $3.80

Roblox calls this the "New Rate". Quoted from the DevEx help page.

Open the Roblox DevEx Calculator →

DevEx rate — legacy & US 18+

per Robux
$0.0035 · $0.0054
  • Old Rate — $0.0035 — Robux earned before 5 Sept 2025
  • US 18+ rate — $0.0054 — effective 8 June 2026
  • Cash-out order — 18+ balance first, then Old Rate, then New Rate

An old-rate balance must be cleared before any new-rate Robux can be cashed out.

Retail price of Robux

per Robux
≈ $0.0125
  • 400 R$ — $4.99
  • 800 R$ — $9.99
  • Ratio to DevEx — a player pays ~3.3× what a creator cashes out at

The gap between the two rates is the single most misunderstood thing about Robux.

Open the Robux to USD Calculator →

DevEx minimum

Earned Robux
30,000
  • At the standard rate — $114
  • Counts — game passes, developer products, engagement payouts
  • Does not count — purchased, traded or gifted Robux

Only Earned Robux count towards the threshold — buying Robux does not move it.

How to use this page

Read a figure here when you want to know why a calculator produced what it produced, or when you want to check our working. Every card states the whole rule rather than one worked answer, so it also serves as a lookup while you are building or pricing. If you want the arithmetic done for you, follow the link at the foot of the card — each calculator shows a worked example using these same numbers.

What can change, and when

The Minecraft figures are stable across Java Edition releases but are not guaranteed: block counts and XP bands have survived many versions, while mob XP drops and generation rules have been tuned before. The Roblox numbers are the volatile ones — Roblox sets the marketplace fee and every DevEx rate unilaterally, changed the standard rate in September 2025 and added a US 18+ rate in June 2026. Each rate above is dated for that reason. Before you plan around a payout, check the current figure on your own creator dashboard.

The retail price, the 30% marketplace cut and the DevEx rate are three different numbers. This guide walks the whole chain from a player’s $6.25 to a creator’s $1.33.
