What your result means
K/D ratio is kills divided by deaths: 1.0 means you trade evenly, 2.0 means two kills for every death. KDA adds assists to the top of the fraction, which is why it is always the higher number and why the two are not comparable — a player quoting KDA is not quoting the same statistic as a player quoting K/D. Kills still needed is the honest version of "how far off am I": it holds your deaths constant, so it is the minimum, achievable only by never dying again. The number you will really need is larger, and the further from your target you are, the larger it gets.
Why this one is different
Beyond the ratio itself, the tool answers the question behind it: how many more kills reach your target, and how many deaths you can afford while getting there. KDA with assists counted is reported separately, since the two figures diverge sharply in team modes, and a banding line places the result.
A long account history makes your ratio almost immovable
K/D is a lifetime average, and averages resist change in proportion to how much data they already contain. On 1,240 kills and 980 deaths — a 1.265 ratio — reaching 1.5 needs 230 kills with no deaths at all. Play at a genuine 2.0 for that stretch instead and you need roughly 470 kills and 235 deaths to get there.
This is why chasing a lifetime ratio is usually the wrong goal. Your recent form is the thing you can actually move, and it is invisible inside a career total. How it works
K/D is one division: kills ÷ deaths. KDA is (kills + assists) ÷ deaths, which is why it is the friendlier figure and why comparing one to the other is meaningless. The target calculation rearranges the first: if you want a ratio of T with D deaths, you need T × D kills in total, so the shortfall is T × D − your current kills. Holding deaths fixed makes that a lower bound rather than a prediction, since playing more matches adds deaths as well as kills.
How to use this calculator
- Enter your total kills and total deaths from your career or season stats — whichever period you actually want to measure.
- Add assists if you want the KDA figure. Leave it at zero and KDA will simply match your K/D.
- Enter a target K/D to see the shortfall in kills. Read it as a floor: it assumes no further deaths.
- To measure form rather than history, use the numbers from a single season or playlist instead of lifetime totals.
Formula
kills, deaths and assists are your totals for whatever period you are measuring. Kills needed holds deaths constant, so it is the minimum. A ratio requires deaths to be greater than zero: division by zero is undefined, not infinite.
Example calculation
A player with 1,240 kills, 980 deaths and 310 assists, aiming for a 1.5 K/D:
KDA = (1,240 + 310) ÷ 980 = 1.58
Kills needed for 1.5 = (1.5 × 980) − 1,240 = 1,470 − 1,240 = 230
Deaths affordable at 1.5 with current kills = 1,240 ÷ 1.5 = 826
230 kills assumes 230 flawless engagements. At a realistic 2.0 for that stretch it is closer to 470 kills and 235 deaths — which is the number worth planning against, and the reason lifetime ratios move so slowly.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a good K/D?+
It depends almost entirely on the mode, and comparing across modes is meaningless. In a team objective mode a K/D near 1.0 is average by construction — every kill is someone’s death, so the population average is pinned close to even. In modes with bots, respawn-heavy playlists or generous assist rules the same skill produces a much higher figure. A 1.3 in a competitive playlist can represent stronger play than a 3.0 in a casual one.
Why is my KDA so much higher than my K/D?+
Because assists are added to the numerator without adding anything to the denominator. If you play a support or utility role you will accumulate assists at a high rate, so KDA flatters that style and K/D understates it. Neither is wrong; they measure different contributions. What matters is not comparing your KDA against someone else’s K/D.
Does K/D actually measure skill?+
Partly, and less than its prominence suggests. It rewards surviving and punishes trading, which in objective modes can be exactly backwards: taking a losing fight to hold a point is good play and bad for your ratio. It also ignores everything that is not a kill — objectives, revives, utility, positioning that never produces a shot. Treat it as one signal among several rather than a verdict on how well you play.
Why can I not have a K/D with zero deaths?+
Because dividing by zero has no answer. Software that prints "infinity" or simply your kill count is presenting a number that does not exist, and it becomes an ordinary ratio the moment you die once. This calculator says there is no ratio yet instead, which is the accurate statement.
How many matches will it take to move my ratio?+
More than most people expect, and the answer scales with your existing volume. A ratio built from 2,000 deaths needs roughly twenty times as much new data to shift by the same amount as one built from 100. The practical implication is that a career K/D is close to fixed after a few hundred hours, which is a reason to track a recent window instead.
Should I chase a higher ratio?+
If the mode rewards it, it correlates with playing well. If it does not, chasing it will make you a worse teammate — camping for safe kills, refusing trades and avoiding objectives all raise a ratio while losing games. Decide which the mode pays for first, then optimise for that instead of the number.

Every figure here comes from a simplified model. Keep these limits in mind when reading your result:
- Uses only the totals you enter. It has no access to your account and cannot tell which mode, playlist or period the numbers came from — a lifetime figure and a season figure look identical to the arithmetic.
- Kills needed for a target assumes no further deaths, making it a minimum rather than a forecast. Playing more matches adds to both sides of the fraction.
- Assists affect KDA only. K/D excludes them by definition, which is why the two figures are not interchangeable.
- Games count kills, deaths and assists differently — some award assists on any damage contribution, some only on a threshold, and some count environmental or team kills inconsistently. Two games’ ratios are not directly comparable.
- The bandings are descriptive of the number, not of skill. A K/D near 1.0 is the population average in most team modes by construction.
