A win rate needs a sample size before it means anything.

What your result means

Win rate is wins divided by games played, as a percentage. Consecutive wins to reach your target is the honest version of "how far off am I": it assumes an unbroken streak, so it is the absolute minimum rather than a forecast. Lose once on the way and the requirement grows. Losses you can afford is the same arithmetic from the other side, and is the more useful figure when you are already above target and trying to stay there. The next game rows show how much a single result still moves your number — which is the fastest way to see how locked-in a long record has become.

Why this one is different

The two useful projections sit under the percentage: how many consecutive wins reach your target, and how many losses you can absorb and still hold it. What your rate becomes if you win the next game — and if you lose it — is spelled out, which is the swing that matters when the sample is small.

Why a 55% player cannot "just get to 60"

From 248-212, sixty per cent is seventy straight wins away

Win rate is an average over everything you have ever played, so it resists change in proportion to how much you have played. A record of 248 wins and 212 losses is 53.91%. Reaching 60% from there takes seventy consecutive wins — not seventy more wins, seventy in a row, with no losses in between.

Play at a genuine 60% for the next stretch and you never reach 60% overall, because you are averaging new games against a permanent record that sits below it. You converge towards it slowly from underneath and never arrive. This is the single most useful thing a win rate calculator can tell you, and it is why serious players track a season or a recent window instead of a lifetime figure.

How it works

Win rate is wins ÷ games played. The target calculation rearranges that: if you want a rate of T after adding n straight wins to w wins in g games, then (w + n) ÷ (g + n) = T. Solving for n gives n = (T × g − w) ÷ (1 − T). The (1 − T) on the bottom is why targets behave so badly as they approach 100% — the closer T gets to 1, the smaller the denominator and the larger the answer, and at exactly 100% there is no solution at all because no number of wins can remove a loss that already happened.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your wins and losses for whatever period you want to measure — a season, a playlist, or your whole record.
  2. Add draws if the mode has them. They count towards games played but not towards wins, which lowers the percentage.
  3. Enter a target win rate under 100% to see the streak it would take.
  4. Read the streak figure as a floor, not a plan. If it is longer than a session, the honest conclusion is usually to track a shorter recent window rather than to chase the lifetime number.

Formula

win rate = wins ÷ games     n = (target × games − wins) ÷ (1 − target)

games = wins + losses + draws, target = your goal as a decimal (60% → 0.6), n = consecutive wins required. The result assumes no losses during the streak, making it a minimum. A target of 100% has no solution once a single loss exists.

Example calculation

A player on 248 wins and 212 losses, aiming for a 60% win rate:

Games = 248 + 212 = 460
Win rate = 248 ÷ 460 = 53.91%
n = (0.60 × 460 − 248) ÷ (1 − 0.60)
n = (276 − 248) ÷ 0.40 = 28 ÷ 0.40 = 70
Check: (248 + 70) ÷ (460 + 70) = 318 ÷ 530 = 60.00%
At 69 wins it is only 59.92%, so 70 is genuinely the first that clears it

Seventy consecutive wins is not a realistic plan for anyone. The practical reading is that this player’s lifetime figure is effectively fixed, and if they want a number that reflects how they are playing now, they need to start a fresh count.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good win rate?

In any mode with symmetric matchmaking the population average is pinned near 50% by construction — every win is someone else’s loss, and rating systems actively push you towards even. Sustained 55% in a competitive ladder is strong; 60% over a large sample usually means you are climbing and have not yet reached your level. Anything far above that over thousands of games generally indicates a mode with bots, uneven teams, or a rating floor you have not hit.

Why does my win rate barely move any more?

Because each new game is one data point against everything you have already played. On 100 games a single win moves your rate by roughly half a percentage point; on 2,000 games it moves it by about 0.025. Nothing has changed about how you are playing — the denominator has grown. This is also why a bad session feels catastrophic early on and invisible later.

Should draws count as half a win?

Some sports and rating systems treat them that way, and chess scores them as half a point. This calculator does not: it counts draws in games played but not in wins, which is the convention in most video games that record them separately. If your game treats a draw as half a win, add half your draws to the wins box and leave the draws box empty.

Does win rate measure skill?

More honestly than most individual statistics, because it is the outcome the game is actually about — but it is also the most diluted by teammates. In a five-player team you contribute a fifth of the result on average, so a long win-rate sample says something real while any short one is mostly noise about who you were matched with.

How many games do I need before my win rate means anything?

For a rough sense, a few hundred. The statistical margin on a proportion narrows with the square root of the sample, so 100 games carries roughly a ±10 point margin at 95% confidence, 400 games about ±5, and 1,000 games about ±3. A 54% over 50 games and a 46% over 50 games are not meaningfully different results.

Why can I never reach a 100% win rate?

Because losses are permanent in the record. The formula divides by (1 − target), and at a target of exactly 1 that is division by zero — the arithmetic is telling you the request is impossible rather than merely hard. Your rate can approach 100% asymptotically with an unbroken streak, but it can never arrive once a loss exists.

Assumptions & limitations

Every figure here comes from a simplified model. Keep these limits in mind when reading your result:

  • Uses only the totals you enter. It cannot tell a season from a lifetime, a solo queue from a premade, or one game from another — identical numbers produce identical answers regardless of where they came from.
  • Consecutive wins to target assumes an unbroken streak. Any loss during it increases the requirement, so treat the figure as a hard floor rather than a projection.
  • Draws count towards games played but not towards wins. Games that score a draw as half a win will disagree; add half your draws to the wins field instead.
  • Ignores match length, rating change and opponent strength entirely. A win rate says nothing about whether you were favoured in the games you won.
  • Assumes wins and losses are recorded correctly by the game. Backfills, disconnects, forfeits and remakes are counted inconsistently across titles and are often the reason a tracker disagrees with the in-game profile.
