The 30% fee is the number that surprises people

Roblox takes 30% of every Marketplace sale, so a 500 Robux game pass leaves the creator 350. The Robux Tax Calculator works forwards from a list price to what you keep, and the Robux Before-Tax Calculator works backwards from a target: to net 350 you must list at 500, and to net a round number you almost never list at one. Pricing from the amount you want rather than the amount you charge is the habit worth forming.

Buying in and cashing out use different rates

This is the part that makes Robux confusing. Players buy Robux at roughly $0.0125 each, so the Robux to USD Calculator tells you what a balance cost to acquire. Developers cash out through DevEx at a lower rate — the Roblox DevEx Calculator applies it and the eligibility threshold to show what a payout actually pays. The gap between the two rates is the platform's margin, and treating one as the other overstates a balance's value by several times.

Two fees, applied in order

A creator earning from sales meets the Marketplace fee first and the DevEx rate second, and they compound. Run a figure through the tax calculator before the DevEx calculator, in that order, if you want the honest end-to-end number from list price to bank transfer — and note that DevEx has a minimum balance, so small earnings are not withdrawable at any rate.

Progression is its own kind of currency

The Fortnite XP is the outlier here: it converts between levels and total XP for a battle pass season and divides the remainder by the days left, which turns a distant level target into a daily number. That is the figure that decides whether a pass is finishable — and unlike Robux, unspent time does not carry over when the season ends.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Robux fee called a tax?

Convention rather than accuracy. It is a Marketplace commission of 30%, deducted by Roblox at the point of sale, not a government tax. The name stuck because it behaves like one from the creator's side: unavoidable and taken before the money reaches you.

Why is the DevEx rate lower than what players pay for Robux?

Because they are two sides of one exchange and the spread between them is how the platform earns. Players buy in at roughly $0.0125 per Robux; developers cash out well below that. It means the dollar value of a Robux balance depends entirely on which direction you are going, and quoting the purchase rate on earnings overstates them considerably.

Do these calculators account for income tax?

No. Every figure is what the platform pays out, before any tax you owe on it. DevEx earnings are income in most jurisdictions and are usually self-reported, so treat the payout figure as gross and check your own obligations — the rates and thresholds vary far too widely to model here.

Can Fortnite XP requirements change mid-season?

Yes. Epic adjusts XP curves, bonus goals and event multipliers during a season, so a daily target computed today can shift. Recompute after any patch that touches progression rather than trusting a figure from the start of the season.
